We are travelling on the Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry next week and were wondering if the EES (ie photo and fingerprint system) is in operation there yet?
If so how does it actually operate do you have to get out of the vehicle to go to a kiosk or do they come to the vehicle?
We have used the kiosks in Rome so know how they operate.

A quick Google check tells you 12th October for starting the phase in.

As well is two words!

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
If you have already used the EES fingerprint and photo system in Rome you are now registered and just need a passport check.
We went through registration in Malaga in December last year. On a visit to Palma a couple of weeks ago we went straight to egates and were out of the airport in minutes.
Yep, supposed to be fully active from 9th April, not quite what I was asking though - i was wondering if it was in place and what the process was at the terminal for vehicles.

We also used the kiosks in Rome, but while the photo bit worked, the fingerprint recording didn't. I have no idea whether we are now registered (when it becomes universal) or whether we have to do it again!

The system is in operation in Holland.on that route. You get out of your car to go to a kiosk. If you are last off the ferry it will be a slow queue to get to there but if you are first off the ship it will be quick. So it might take five minutes or it might take an hour.

Looks like there’s nothing happening on the ferries for a while:

That refers to ferries to France, be interesting to see what happens arriving in the Netherlands.

We flew Birmingham to Schipol on Friday on our way to Prague. The electronic system was quick, the first machine didn't work but they had helpful staff who got me to try the next oone! My wife had to have a couple of goes to get fingerprint scan.
You need to Press hard on the hand scanner.
Interestingly we then went to the kiosks and got a passport check and stamp!
Apparently it was the first day.
No passport checks at Prague as it was internal EU flight.

We had exactly the same experience going through Alicante in February, interesting to note that getting your passport stamped isn't restricted to Spain when using the EES.

Has anyone any info of the EES on the A9/A7 France/Spanish border crossing ie. any delays etc.
There are no passport checks there. Both those countries are in the EU and Schengen zone and have open borders to each other - though there might possibly be customs checks especially on the way back.
Hi,
As I understand it, EES doesn’t apply to internal borders, it’s when you enter from a non EU country into the EU so it would have happened on entering France
