I've just realised why I enjoy France so much. It's not the food, nor the wine, the scenery or the beaches.
It's being able to drive 1,500 miles in three weeks and only spotting three tiny potholes!!
What a difference coming back from Dover via the A2/M2.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Yup, can't agree more about the roads in France being so much better than our own!

Can't believe we have SO MANY road repairs on the go, yet the roads are still like an African dirt track in most part! .... and I'm talking about the major roads not back roads!

Another vote for French roads.

National disgrace!
There were lots of aftermath of road repairs that made the roads very bumpy, on top of the dreaded potholes!

Living in France the last 5 years have noticed the improvement in French roads and the deterioration of British ones.
More potholes on the M27 between Portsmouth and Southampton than the 400 mile journey from the Dordogne to Caen or St Malo.
Generally, autoroutes, routes nationales and most departmentals are of a very high standard - communales vary from billiard table to crater ridden.
I remember when we lived in Sheffield and first returned to England via Zeebrugge - Hull (about 12 years ago) - Belgian motorways could best be described as potholes linked by short strips of tarmac - and yet within 3 years or so thay'd all been repaired - or at least the ones leading to Bruges via either Dunkirk or Roubaix.
We love the French roads too. But the worst Road we have ever driven on was a couple of days ago in Belgium travelling from Luxembourg to the Ardennes region (can’t remember the Road number).
They do have quite evil speed humps in some of the towns though - not such an issue with a motorhome but I recall that we misjudged the angle at one and ripped the wheel arch part way off the caravan when we had one !
