I recall the 'Aires' are pretty good in France. Anyone recommend something between Le Mans and Niort.
Not been along the A10 for years...we're more familiar with the A6?

Aires on that stretch are pretty much of a muchness IMHO. We only really use them for toilet breaks between home (Dordogne) and the ferry (Caen or St Malo). Generally avoid between midday and 2pm when half of the motorway traffic in France stops for lunch. Fuel is very expensive, fill up before boarding the ferry or find a supermarket close to the motorway. We buy sandwiches/snacks and drinks from Lidl before setting off - or when coming back from Portsmouth, the big Tesco's near Port Solent.
Only ones used on that stretch in the last few years are Chatellerault-Antran and Sarthe Touraine (A28 between Le Mans and Tours). Can't really remember anything about them so nothing horrendous.
We tend to avoid the proper services type Aires, much prefer the picnic area type ones with our own sandwiches and drinks (like Longcol). Sometimes the toilets on these Aires are 'interesting' - but any port in a storm!

Interesting is an understatement dearest.I know they charge to use the loo en route to Italy but they're spotless.
Some of the Aires are frequented by truck drivers with dubious bathroom habits I fear.
Its 12yrs since we're driven across France, back then we'd go to a LeClerc or local village, stock up and then use a picnic aire. I take a mini wicker hamper and get the linen napkins out. Setting standards for others...us Brits can do a picnic with panache🤗ðŸ½
