Yep, heard that about a month ago from someone in the travel industry.
It could be the foot in the door.

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
The problem with that would be if you were driving down to Spain via France, your entry and exit points for the EU would be in France. I don`t see how that would work.
Surely enter / exit through Spain itself. Santander.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

I'm sure they could organise some kind of passport stamping scheme, like getting it stamped at the local town hall or making use of the customs agents that trucks use for clearing customs

You can’t always work it like that. We are going to Spain in January but couldn’t get a ferry when we wanted to so are having to drive through France. We will spend 2 nights travelling through France then would have had a further 57 days in Spain. Due to the 90 day limit we have had to reduce time in Spain as we go to France in May which would take us over the 90 days.
Recent article in the Times. You can get an Irish passport without going to Ireland or having to say you are going to live there. Seems a reasonable way to go to the eu at any time for any length of time. You can also get a Irish dogs passport! My neighbour has one!

As I understand it changing the rules like that would require the approval of all of the EU countries in the Schengen Zone? So if they agree for one country it surely makes it difficult because there would be no excuse for not extending it to all countries in the Schengen scheme?

Spain can introduce whatever sort of Visa arrangement they choose, outside of EU approval. We can all apply for a Visa to visit anywhere in the world. EU countries still offer their own Visa requirements.
