Can't work out if it comes into effect for us in May or November so I ended up booking BF from Poole to Cherbourg for August as did t want anything to do with the mess at Dover or Folkestone if it's in effect in August.
Not really researched it too much yet so just wondered if someone had a simple answer
Hi,
As I understand it, the EES is expected to be implemented from May 23. It is the system that is likely to cause increased queues at border crossings involving ferries & eurotunnel due to potentially everyone having to get out of their vehicle for facial recognition & fingerprints. Already in place & easier to implement at airports, especially with e gates.
ETIAS as said ,is from November & is the same as for the USA
That's how I read it Fiona, ETIAS shouldn't cause any real issues (unless you get declined!) Obviously EES is the problem, that whilst passports will no longer need to be stamped Entry and Exit to/from the EU will take a long time, especially at Dover/ Folkestone and Calais, anyone that thinks taking facial recognition photos and fingerprints won't have any significant effect obviously hasn't travelled by Ferry or Eurotunnel in peak season, I think it's going to be horrendous at least for the first few months
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Hi,
I agree, sounds like it has the potential to be horrendous! We’re going to use Portsmouth to go out in the summer & hope it’s not too bad but we usually go over for a short break in mid May; we’ll see how it is then as it’s not school holidays. The one thing I’m not sure about is if you have to do the whole thing every time; given it’s partly to stop passports being stamped I suppose you do!
