Hi all. We are thinking of taking our van to mid west France as a seasonal pitch and just to fly out to the site as and when, so would need to be 30-40mins from airport. We would fly from northwest uk. If anyone could give us any advice as to our plan regarding pros ,cons, pitfalls and generaly anything else that we need to consider, it would be apprieciated.
Thanks in advance

Does your local home airport have flights to La Rochelle for a good part of the year? If so you can easily get a taxi for the short journey across the bridge to the Ile de Re. You will only need bikes to get around the island.
Now you need to contact campsites on the island to see if they can rent you a seasonal pitch, and to phone your caravan insurance to see if they will cover your caravan while it is there. Over to you. But remember that since Brexit your visits are limited to 90 days in any period of 180 ..
You say a 'seasonal pitch' but what do you intend to do at the beginning and end of the season? Will you drive down, towing the caravan, and then tow home again at the close of the campsite? What will you do about car hire whilst you are there? How many times a year are you likely to be a able to visit, bearing in mind flight times, etc.
You might want to think about the much cheaper alternative of storing your caravan in France. You can choose from off-site storage where they will tow it to your chosen site each time, or a campsite with storage where it can be towed to a pitch of your choice in time for your arrival.
We store on a site in the Ardeche and it costs us just 185 euros a year, plus the normal site fee on any night the caravan is occupied, or we can tow it away elsewhere if we choose.

This is our idea. As like the previous reply points out about lengths of stay. We just want hop on/off flights, and bikes and to use every other weekend etc as I work ,so both points we take on board and thankyou

Weve been researching this area and it does look good .if you dont mind where abouts do you store/pitch your van. Thanks in advance
My brother in law and his wife had a house in Italy which was 40 miles from Torino airport. There were regular, affordable, year round flights from UK, but it was that 40 miles which beat them. No car, no bus, no trains - only rapacious taximen to take them from airport to house and back again.
If you go ahead with flying regularly to a seasonal pitch you really must find a site which is closer than they were to an airport. That’s why I suggested the Ile de Re from La Rochelle
We store at Vias, near Beziers airport, 3 flights a week from Manchester. Our folding camper can be towed out to a site, cost depends on distance (€44 return to Portiragnes Plage). Storage outside is €167 this season, more for under cover. Works for us,
Fiona

Hi Fiona, I'm interested in how you get from the airport to the site? We currently store in the Ardeche, but Jerome the site owner is closing the storage facility at the end of 2023 and we have to move our caravan. This storage would be ideal for us, as all our family would be able to fly down. Can you email me (I think you have done before, but can't find it) with details of where you store and contact numbers if possible. valda athome at gmail.com Join up the gaps.
We have a caravan in Deux Sevres - bought this year. It is stored and brought out onto a pitch whenever we want to visit. We then pay the normal pitch fees (ACSI rates). There are two storage areas - an open compound and a barn and prices vary accordingly. Servicing can be arranged with the owners and Caravan Help Abroad visit too. We chose this site as we can reach it in a day from any channel port.
