Hi Joanna
As we live in Northern Ireland, we do Irish Ferries from Dublin to Cherbourg, then drive down to storage near Angers ... about four and a half hours ... collect van, drive to nearby campsite for the night, then to caravan service depot next morning ... coffee and mooch in local town, collect van after lunch and head off to wherever.
Using your Tesco vouchers I presume your choice is Tunnel, P&O Dover/Calais or Irish Ferries Dover/Calais or to Ireland, then to France ... the latter adds some miles on the UK side, as opposed to the long drive from Calais ... but many more hours on board (two ferry crossings) ...
So: hours on board versus hours on road?
The Dublin/Cherbourg ferry is pleasant enough ... various eateries ... plenty of lounges/bars/cafe space/cinema, deck promenade ... so it's a sort of mini-cruise ... tv in all cabins ...
I usually end up in the Marais Poitevin, for a week, before returning van to storage, at the end of the hols ... then up to Cherbourg ...
