After a hairy drive down some very narrow winding mountainous roads in the Dordogne due to relying on satnav(rookie error) can anyone advise best ( read safest not hairy!) route from Montignac back to Bordeaux? We are thinking D704/D6089/A89 straight back but not sure what D704 following the Vezure river is like?

Hello and welcome to the forums.
What is your unit, caravan, MH or tent?

We have travelled all over France for many years, and didn't use a satnav until the last couple of years. I find that a road atlas only shows the better routes, whereas the satnav has led us on many a merry dance!

Sorry, I can't help with that particular road.

There aren't any mountains in the Dordogne - lived here for the last four years. Narrow, winding and (short) steepish roads - yes.

The route you suggest up to the autoroute is a doddle - D704 mainly on a level alongside the river - complete mountain free road - used it at the end of 2020 when we had to go to Perigueux for our interview for our carte de sejour and last September for our holiday on the Ile de Re.

Thank you! Yes mountainous probably wrong description… it was more overhanging rocks and steep climb/descent that had my blood pressure raised! Looks like the d704 it is!
