How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

I’m struggling to find anything beyond 3rd party insurance which maybe covered in our travel insurance. We have to wear a helmet for our travel insurance but this isn’t mandatory for adults in France. If there is anything else, please share! We didn’t do anything special when we were there 3 weeks ago & we’re back next Saturday so be good to know
A lot of it is just common sense rules/laws. Or clamping down on over-powered e-bikes.
The "All new bikes sold must be registered to a data base" doesn't affect visitors/holidaymakers.
Helmets compulsory for under 12's.
A bell or horn that is audible from at least 50 metres.
The big stand out for me, is that rear red lights can flash in daylight, but must be non-flashing/solid red after dark "To minimise distraction to drivers"! Hmmm!
I assume this refers to integrated helmet lights (which we have) as well as the main bike lights?

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

As always Google is your friend.
Hi,
But there’s nothing new there that I can see. All I found was mandatory ID inscription for new bikes sold in France & insurance for e-bikes that are over the permitted limits ie no pedal assist & able to go faster than 25km/hr. Is there something I’m missing? We cycle a lot in France on legal electric bikes & have no wish for a fine!!

So far likewise Fiona, I've asked on another forum with no response (they have a lot of expats on that community), and I've searched the Connexion for corroborating evidence but so far drawn a blank.
The OP has been asked to provide evidence but has so far, not been able to do so , therefore I'm inclined to believe that it's an internet rumour with no basis in fact (though I'm happy to be proved wrong).
The article linked to suggested the authorities are reluctant to put people off of cycling and this (the insurance requirement), would do just that.

Interesting... your link states no flashing rear lights, day or night!
The bit I read (which I can't find again now! sorry!) said flashing was ok in day time.
My main integrated bike lights are only solid, with no option for flashing, so all good there.
I think I'll stick with flashing on the rear of my helmet. I'd rather "distract" the driver enough to highlight my existence, and stay alive long enough to pay the potential €11 fine!
