My EU trip this year has been planned, with pit stops where there is a Flunch in mind as I Flunch, and also a supermarket for provisions.
The longest drive is from the campsite in Germany back to the overnight campsite in France near Reims for a 5-night stay before coming home.
It is about 5h's drive without stopping, and I plan to stop at a Flunch for lunch near Metz.
Hoping to catch up with one of my ex-bosses who lives in Basal, hence the campsite in Germany. However, not too bothered if he can't make it.
Not planning to take much provision wise from home as I have planned to do a big grocery shop in France en-route to the first campsite for an overnight stay.
The big Auchans I have in mind also have a Flunch in the same compound, which I found out they are part of the same group of companies.
Looking forward to my trip in June 2026.

Hi DK,
As a seasoned traveller in the EU using an AHC, you probably know this already, but were you aware of the need to get Section 8 of the AHC completed on arrival in France, if you are intending to move on to other EU countries?
It's all totally new to us, but hopefully you're up to date with everything.

Thanks bofs for that.
This is new to me, however, I shall ask the vet to check.
As far as I am aware, my Traveller's Point of Entry (TPE) is Le Shuttle at Folkstone, and the AHC will need to be in English and French, and valid for travelling to Germany and other EU countries and back.

I have done more digging, and believe the AHC once stamped by the officials at Pet Reception in Section 8 at TPE as in Le Shuttle in Folkstone, it is valid to travel within EU including Germany.
The same with EES - I have to verify myself at Folkstone before boarding the train to France.
Same with train passengers using Eurotunnel in that they have to register/verify EES at St. Pancras in London or Ashford as they are their TPEs.
There is nowhere to stop once the trains arrive in France!
What is your mode of travel to France/EU out of interest?

Stamping the AHC by the officials at the Pet Reception had been the norm in the past. I do not know which section they stamped, however, I believe it is Section 8.
I have not kept a copy of the previous AHC to be able to check.
I have sent an e-mail to the vets to raise my concerns.

For my last trip in 2024, I went to France and the Netherlands, and there was no further checks when I crossed the borders in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The AHC was stamped at the Pet Reception at Folkestone, however I do not know which section.

We're taking our cat to France for the first time and it's been a steep learning curve! I don't "do" Facebook, but when I was googling for AHC I came across an extremely helpful group on FB, so I joined. the info on there is incredible, it's run as a very tight ship by its owner, Kathy Thomas. Amongst other things there are guides on every aspect of pet travel abroad, as well as very helpful videos of getting through LeShuttle check-in and Pet Reception.

I do not believe the Pet Reception or the procedure involved in getting pets through to EU and back via the tunnel has changed.
I also believe the officials at the Pet Reception stamped the right page/section to confirm all was well for the dog before we proceeded to board the shuttle. However, I do not know what section/page it was on the AHC as I did not keep the previous ones.

We always travel by Brittany Ferries, Portsmouth to Cherbourg.
When we arrived in Cherbourg there were no checks on the dog's paperwork as usual, but as we were intending 1) to stay in France and not cross into any other EU countries and 2) use the EU passport to travel back to the UK, we didn't need to get the AHC stamped.
Like Ena, we too have been using the very helpful information provided by Kathy Thomas to negotiate the AHC minefield. If you Google AHC with her name, you should find it.
The site provides directions to where to go on arrival at the various ports to get the Section 8 completed.
There's also a very useful list/map of recommended vets for the worming treatment/completion of the AHC before returning to the UK - with details of vets to avoid, either because of cost or not correctly completing the paperwork.

Sorry about that dk, I didn't check whether it worked after posting, can now see it comes up with an error. No idea why, I first clicked on "Add a Link" which has always worked.
Anyway, I see that bofs has provided the details of how to search for it, so if you did want to join the group, you'll find it that way.

No worries, and I have found the FB group and joined.
I am confident in that the process involved for AHC is different for travelling by tunnel and by ferries.
The vets have also confirmed this - travelling by tunnel is a lot easier!

Yes, tunnel seems the best bet. All checks are done at this end, so it's straight off the train and onto the motorway in France. Also the dog, or cat in our case, stays in the vehicle with you. We've travelled via the tunnel for many years now and find it so much better than the ferries.
We've arranged to pick up the AHC from EasyPet Travel just before the tunnel, found it via the FB group map. Our vet didn't appear too familiar with the process, although he does them. As it's our first time taking the cat, rather than having a problem with the paperwork at Pet Check-in, we decided to use a vet who knows the system inside out, lessens the anxiety!
