At last, we've booked the crossing.
So the road trip for 2022 is happening.
Hull to Rotterdam, Arlon fuel/ coffee stop, then on to Eguisheim.
Day 2 Eguisheim to stGothard tunnel, swiss border and then onto Limone sul Garda.
Do we have to prove Covid vaccinations at every border?

There is definitely a border for Switzerland, we have passport checks and incurr a Vignette fee.
I too remember border controls.
I know we have to provide vaccination proof and a negative test result at Hull when boarding. I just wonder how many more there are.
Knowing how rules/ restrictions vary in the UK, I'm just wondering if neighbouring nations in Europe are similar.
( I work for the NHS so I am aux fait with the variations between nations on one land mass - crazy).
We haven't left UK soil since 2019, so its long overdue.
Camping in Cumbria was beautiful but very different to the mountains and lakes experience of Switzerland and Italy.
I was quite surprised by the crossing fee. I thought it was a relatively low increase. It wasn't cheap for a large Club Class cabin but the experience is so worth it.
They still haven't got the Brasserie bookings right....you still can't book on-line for a table. No way am I queuing in a cafe, I'd rather starve.
We work too hard all year to lower our standards on a ferry crossing.
People still cant understand why we dont fly somewhere, but it has to be a camping holiday for me. Hotels on the 1st and last night or for a weekend city break but I NEED that canvas / zip fix.

Ah, as they would say in the 'what did the romans ever do for us' sketch-yes, apart from that one!
HMG website says-
""If you’re fully vaccinated
If you’re fully vaccinated you can enter Switzerland without needing to test or quarantine.
At least 14 days must have passed since your second dose of the vaccine and the vaccine must have been approved by the authorities in Switzerland (Swissmedic) and the EU (EMA) or are on the WHO emergency use list and they were administered in accordance with the regulations or recommendations of the state in which the vaccination took place.""
We will be on Garda in June, not sure on dates yet as we have two options, and may well have a meal at the Hotel Monte Baldo in Limone to remember my parents who loved the place.
As you say, great as it is to be out in the van in the UK its not the same as sitting by a beautiful lake, snow capped mountains in the distance and a bottle of Peroni in hand.
We use BF from Plymouth mainly after deciding that the extra cost was worth it for the quality and dont envy those heading for Dover or Folkestone this summer.
We camp at the Nanzel in Limone.
Love Malcesine....not so much Riva because its not as 'rustic' as other places.
Great place to radiate from.
The Nanzel is just the right distance from town, a bit more secluded. The other campsite is like a carpark!

There are kind of borders when entering Switzerland, though the crossing at Berne is the only one we've seen manned, with different lanes for those with vignette and those without. No passport checks - despite not being in the EU Switzerland is part of Schengen.
In our experience over the past couple of years there aren't usually any border checks once you're in Schengen...and we've done a few (in both directions): France-Belgium, Belgium-Luxembourg, Luxembourg-France, France-Germany, Belgium-Netherlands, Netherland-Germany.

Your route is pretty similar to ours in May: tunnel and then a stop near Luxembourg for the first night. Next day fuel and on to Riquewihr, then through Switzerland and into Italy via the St Gotthard. Luckily we can use the app-based vignette because we're over 3.5t so we don't need to stop for a sticker.

We've now been invited to Munich on the way back up to Rotterdam. So if anyone has any recommendations for a HOTEL halfway between Munich and Rotterdam pray tell.
Once we've packed all the kit in Limone, we won't pitch again.
Somewhere about 4hrs from Rotterdam would suit. A 3 or 4 star with secure parking would be ideal.
Rotterdam is so 'grim' nr Europort but there must be some lovely places to eat and sleep.

Can't recommend anywhere between Munich and Europoort as a hotel stopover; however, having a friend who lives in Munich and having travelled the same route back, a stopover at Valkenburg was well worth it. Travelling on German autobahns on a Sunday worked well, lorries as a rule don't travel on Sundays. Staying in Valkenburg for a couple of nights was lovely, and the trip back to Europoort was good.
R'dam possibly is "grim near Europoort", but like anywhere else, look a bit further and there will be better areas not far away. Let's face it, Hull may be "grim" near the ferry terminal, but I'm sure that not much further away there are some interesting areas, like any other towns/cities near ferry ports.
Agreed, you only have to look at most cities to find grim areas. Hull port is dismal. Yet Zeebrugge was ok within 30 minutes it is green open countryside.....
7hrs is a long haul from Munich, 5 would be better. We sail at 20:30 with boarding from 18:00, so we have from mid morning to set off from. I'm thinking the environs of Luxembourg then hit the motorways from there.
