How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
It’s an ever shrinking list. Many former municipal sites have been privatised (and sometimes for the better) , some have been turned into motorhome only aires, some have simply closed, some have hung on with minimal staffing, and some that remain are open for ever shorter seasons - even July/August only. The motorhome revolution in France has had a big effect.

We use the Guide Officiel too, alongside the ACSI book. If you have no need of facilities, then you might find municipals or even some ACSI sites will be cheaper without adding on EHU for instance. But municipals are not always cheaper than others, however they are often conveniently situated.
Thank you everyone. That does seem to have answered my question. We are a bit old school and like a directory to browse through. I see that vicarious are selling the 2020 Guide Officiel at a reduced price, so I might go for that.
Once again thanks - I knew that you would come up with the goods!

Personally, I see that as a false economy, as others have already stated, the numbers of campsites are shrinking (you can see that by comparing the number of campsites covered in the Guide Officiel, our first one had over 10,000 entries, the latest 2021 version shows 8,696). We make no definite plans when we hit France, we just follow the decent weather, relying on an old guide might find us heading to a site that no longer exists.

Is it possible to post a link for the municipal guide, I have looked but for some reason can’t find it thanks
There isn't an 'official' municipal guide. What there is, instead, is a book giving ALL the campsites in France, of all types, from the smallest municipal, to the largest all-singing five star site. It is 'Le Guide Officiel Camping Caravanning' and is available from the large hypermarket type supermarkets in France, bookshops and sometimes from larger campsitIf you support 'Shop Local' you can ask your UK bookshop to order it for you (author Linda Salem ISBN-10 : 2380770123
ISBN-13 : 978-2380770124), or if you prefer you can order from Amazon - Le Guide Official Camping Caravanning'

Hi Val, hope your doing Well. Are these guides in English and also do you know if there is a Guide for Aires in Europe or is it only by country.
Cheers
The Guide Officiel is in French, but you'll soon work it out. I've just looked inside and they don't mention any other countries in the range. Corsica is included.
Vicarious Books list a variety of camping guides, maybe one of those would be helpful.
Fine, Mick. Sorry 'Le Guide Officiel' in is French. There are other less comprehensive guides in English. I don't know about 'Aires' books, because we're caravanners and can't use them.
I wish you and yours All the Best for Christmas and the New Year. Come and see us in the Aude next year.
