will be in a van with kayak on board the roof and bikes in the back, so a secure car park or a site with a static for one night, 3 adults, any suggestions, hotel b and b not fussy really, just somewhere to chill out have a meal and a couple of drinks
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Live near Sarlat - usually cross from Caen and can do it in about 7/8 hours comfortably then sleep on the boat to Portsmouth. Car (Berlingo) with just the two of us.
When we used to tent camp and didn’t want to have to put up the big tent for a single night stopover, we bought a small 3 man pop up tent and then we could just set out from the ferry, drive for as long as we felt like towards our destination and then stop at a local site overnight. The small tent would be up in a few minutes, a few more to inflate the airbed and then off to either the site or local town bar/restaurant for dinner. With bikes and a kayak I wouldn’t want to leave the van in a car park, I’d rather have it right beside me on a campsite.

Pretty much anywhere Loire and northwards should see you OK I'd guess. We've used the Novotel Amboise a few times as it's just off the main D31 that skirts the town. Overlooks the town - has swimming pool - decent restaurant.
Also used the Novotel La Source Orleans and the nearby Campanile - a more direct route to Dieppe.
Our favourite was in Chartres, the Hotellerie St Yves - just down from the Cathedral with its fabulous stained glass windows and a Son et Lumiere plus a couple of very decent and inexpensive restaurants on the road at the side of the Cathedral. Access isn't straightforward unless your french is half decent - the road next to the Cathedral has those metal bollards will sink into the ground when you explained over the intercom that you've a reservation at St Yves
Walled car park - although space might be a bit tight so if you're interested might be worth checking in advance. Staff among most helpful we've ever come across and the help yourself continental breakfast is excellent. Very reasonably priced accommodatiom for a very interesting location.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
