I always do, in my mind to save hassle at the terminal, however as I have never not pre filled it in ..... I have no idea what the hassle would be if I didnt!
I always do it for the Tunnel too. But again, I'm not sure what the consequences would be if I didn't. Certainly, the Tunnel have no checking facility once you arrive, you just drive straight off. In the past, they used to come round and 'zap' the mirror hanger, but don't do that any more.

I have also for this upcoming trip with Brittany Ferries filled out the optional pre-travel info (passport details) for passengers, dogs and confirmed the car details. I guess by doing this they just have to check the details against the documents rather than enter the information themselves (takes a fair while for the pets).
For years I have tried to but the P&O link never works properly. I fill in all the details and then when I hit the `next` button it just returns to the previous blank page and wants the same information all over again. So, the answer is I have never completed the API and it has never been raised at Dover when we pass through UK border controls.
Many thanks. I asked because we were unable to complete the P&O booking online. The drop down menus just wouldn’t work so we ended up booking over the phone. Not sure that we’ve ever completed an API. Will see how we get on 🤔
