I’m looking for a couple of two night layovers for next week, between St Tropez area and Beaulieu s/Dordogne, just to break up the journey a bit. Anyone stayed somewhere nice/interesting? TIA.

We would always go to Nyons (Drome), 82 miles from St Tropez 178 miles from Beaulieu.
If you are there on a Thursday they have the largest market certainly in Provence if not in all of France
Perhaps on the first day 125 miles from StTropez to Camping les Micocouliers at Graveson (that’s between Avignon and Arles)- a very comfortable mid range site - but you would need far more than two nights to do justice to that part of Provence.

Thanks for responses. Nyons was on my possibles list for the way down, Stuart; as ever, I trust your recommendations, but it’s a bit off the trajectory. Millau is a good call; had a great time at Huttopia there last year, watching the vultures. And Microcouliers looks like a great find. You’re right, Netherton about the area, there’s still lots I haven’t seen.
The Millau area would be my choice. We first went to Val de Cantobre in 1981 with a baby, and went back lots of times over the years, the last time in 2009 when Claire and Francois sold up to RCN. We said we wouldn't go back again - just too many lovely memories.
Last year, though, we agreed to we meet up with two sets of friends again at Val de Cantobre - and found it just as lovely as when we first went all those years ago. We found lots of new places to visit, shared with us by the friends we met, we had a lovely meal in Nant. We did our usual stuff watching the wildlife - vultures, bee eaters, so many birds and butterflies, and even the Przewalski "wild" horses up on the Causse Sauveterre.
Bit late now but I'd be tempted to go across to the Rhone Valley and stay in Hauterives to see the unique work of primitive sculpture, the "Ideal Palace of Facteur Cheval".

Did it on our way back from the Med about 8 years ago - well worth the detour.
I called in on the Palais Idéal on my way down from Lyon to Grignan. It’s every bit as impressive as you say, and both beautiful and totally bonkers! Thanks for the call; the campsite looks useful too.

Thank you for that one. We may be visiting next week when we're bringing our caravan back to the UK for some work to be done. It's about the right distance from our storage site.

But the campsite in your link is nearly 60 miles from the Ideal Palace. For anyone wanting to see what the postman built there is a campsite on the spot at .
We stayed at Hautrives just to see the Palais in 2018. Amazing place & learning about his story, well worth the 2 night stay. Stayed at Camping le chateau which was ok as I remember , with a handy intermarche across the road
