You can take gas cannisters, as long as they are turned off, but you can't take an LPG powered car - that causes a lot of confusion. Loads of motorhomes and caravans use the tunnel, especially in the winter, when the sea could be too rough. We have done it a few times, but now prefer the big Seafrance boats Rodin or Berlioz which are very stable, and there is less chance of delays.
Or this (Belgium) - about 1 hour from Calais, with an indoor pool complex and waterslide - http://www.campingterduinen.be/ Take Camping Cheques from 16 August.
I have emailed them but received an answer yet
if I don't get an answer then I am just going to order the cheques & take a chance.

What the language in Belgium ?
That depends on where in Belgium you're going. Mostly it's Flemish, but in areas of the south they speak French. In the Flemish speaking areas, I've found you get by far better using English than French (there seems to be a good appreciation of the fact that no-one else learns to speak Flemish). And the people are lovely!
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Higgsy - that's great - glad you found somewhere - and hope you hear from them soon. If you don't get an answer by email then ring them - if you don't speak enough French, then ask if anyone speaks English - I bet they will. Sites which take Camping Cheques usually have a multi-lingual receptionist - it's the smaller sites where sometimes your best french is needed.
Have a great holiday - and hope that you get good weather.
You will find it a doddle! Don't forget the GB sticker. If you've gat a European Sat Nav - use it; it will give you all chance to see the lovely countryside.
Enjoy!

We're going to be at http://www.wilhelmtell.com/recreatie/default.htm just for two nights from 25th August whilst we go to Dusseldorf for the Caravan Show (just booking the tickets now) - might see you there - look out for Swift Speedbird (wrong side door) and silver Mondeo Estate.
Have a great holiday - hope you enjoy the continent as much as the rest of us. On a rainy day you can even do a 'how many countries tour' and go into Holland (breakfast), Germany (lunch) and Luxembourg (afternoon coffee and cakes and fill up with petrol if it's still cheaper there!) - and still be back in time for dinner!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
