Another consideration, especially if solo, the risk of being nabbed in a speed trap is far greater on ordinary roads. Don't forget, radar traps are often set up in open countryside miles from any towns or villages where its very easy to overlook the 90 kph limit (single carriageway roads).

It's also an absolute no no to have fitted, or carry, any radar detection kit in the car.
another thing we have noticed on non toll roads in peak season is that if you want to stop for a meal break make sure you do it either before or after the French do.come midday spaces to pull over with a caravan on in particular are at a premium particularly on a weekend.

id say anytime from midday to 3pm.not usually a problem but in august it may be on N roads where places to stop are a t a premium.alot depends where you are at the time.dont avoid stopping for a meal,just be aware that it can be packed in services/picnic sites or laybys.
