My husband is away with my girls aged 5 and 8 and for the first time we have let them go into the showers by themselves. They helped eachother wash their hair and turn shower on and off when washing shampoo out etc. They felt very grown up and knew they had to behave.
Have fun.

I wouldn't worry about it, my 2 girls are the same age and will definetly be going by themselves as said before quite a lot of shower blocks are unisex so you can all go together and have cubicles next to each other.
I wouldn't give it a moment's thought. At those ages, a couple of girls who don't have any special needs should be perfectly able to shower without parental supervision, expecially (as others have said) as they will be together.
I would probably avoid them going very late at night, but other than that, would let them get on with it.
My son has showered by himself on caravan sites for a couple years now (he is 11), although we have recently been sending him with a walkie-talkie in a poly-bag because he now has a serious medical condition - not because we are worried about 'stranger danger'.
Any girls that age would be totally embarrassed if a parent went to the loo and showers with them
They would literally 'curl up' especially if there were girls of the same age there who would take the mickey out of them

It is statistically no more dangerous now than when we were kids, it is just that we have greater media coverage of paedophile activity due to multiple tv channels, the net, newspapers etc etc.
We used to roam campsites on our own from the age of 7 or 8 without a single incident. Go and enjoy yourselves and stop worrying!
Thanks for all your reassurances - I guess I'm just over-anxious because this is our first time away together, and the papers seem to be full of horror stories of young girls being snatched or attacked during holidays (Madeleine McCann, those British girls in Goa and Brazil, et al). But you've put my mind at rest, so many thanks.

French campsites are very safe - probably one of the safest environments to have a holiday actually - and children who've grown up with camping holidays are often very self-confident as usually from quite a young age they've been able to 'do things on their own'.
Have a great holiday - where are you planning on going?
It's natural to be anxious - especially when trying something new. One of the many delights of parenthood.
I feel much more at ease on French sites than I do over here. There's a real family atmosphere. Once you get there you will be able to relax and enjoy yourselves.
Like Val said- where are you headed to? Just being nosy!
Goa and Brazil, hmmmmm, whole different kettle of fish but compare the population of the world to the number of abductions and that might put it into perspective!
You might want to take a look at this site , which is practically on your way. We have been there for the last 3 years and it is a lovely family site. My son has made loads of friends there and some of them have been going there as long as they can remember. I'm sure your girls would love it.

My boys are 7,8 and 9, and they went for their showers on there own this year.
Tell them to stay together and they should be fine.
It's hard to let go, but you need to give them a bit of space and responsibilty. They will thank you for it.
Good luck.
