we are also sailing to France on Wednesday and we're taking more than we would usually do due to spending so much on food in May. We're taking some Fray bentos pies, packets of pasta and rice, jars of pasta sauce, tins of tuna, part baked bagettes, cereal, curry sauce, sauces, coffee and a few other bits and bobs. Hopefully this will mean we don't spend more than we need to on food.

I've got some small tuppaware containers with tea, coffee, and sugar, and one with enough butter to tide me over.
Think I'll also take beans, cereal, and a few other bits to make our own meals.
Difficult to know how much to take. I'm vegetarian, so eating abroad can often be difficult, though I have to say I don't mind too much if I end up having to 'survive' on french bread and cheese (and wine!).
I'm taking all the things above plus I'm going to make some chilli and some bolognaise before I go for the first 2 nights food. Freeze it then hopefully it will be good to go when we arrive!
We normally buy jam, chocolate spread for the kids breakfast, its quite cheap there.
I was also considering taking a frozen homemade meal for our first night - i've kept stuff from thawing completely in our electric cool box before now for 2/3 days but always in this country, do you think we'd be ok doing the same going to france. Was also considering freezing some bacon and sausages for the first couple of days?
Any thoughts on this? thanks

We do exactly that, Pumpkin! I take two frozen meals in a cool bag. On the first morning in France I take out the first meal and let it defrost. On the second day the second meal has defrosted inside the coolbox, but is still cold and ready for use.
It just makes our journey through France so much easier - when you arrive on site it's five minutes for 'steadies down, electricity in, water in, waste connected, table and chairs out, meal on, and glass of wine poured out'.
We used to take bacon and sausages when our sons came with us, but don't bother now - we're not into cooked breakfasts any more.

We normally buy those once we get to France, usually from Lidl, where they are only about 30-odd cents for a pack of 2, they are certainly cheaper than over here. We get a few of them just in case we end up somewhere where there is no bread on site/baker within walking distance.
