Just had a look at towsure, like the new small one they have brought out, hubby was having a heart attack at the price! But think I am going to get one, they are so popular, must be good. Just have to decide if the small one is best or the full size one?
Also the campingaz one was there but its not half a solid as the cadac, legs are very wobbly so think will give that one a miss

Not a Which consumer report, but we had a "small" Cadac, think it was called Safari. It was neither use nor ornament if you were outdoors in anything buit still conditions.. Threw it on the tip, carry bag and canisters and all. (Only last week as it happens, you could have had one for nothing)
We did use the Campinggaz version for a couple of years, found that OK, but still got fed up with the hassle of it. The legs on ours were quite stable in fact.
Have seen loads of people with the "big" woky things, and they do seem to perform well. We have n't got one cos we don'ty really cook the sort of stuff they are good for, but just the word of caution re the "small ones", whatever that means. We lost £50/£60 on ours, and when I took it back to the dealer to complain, they did n't want to know. If possible I would recamend seeing one in action before you buy.
There are enough of the pedestal types in use to suggest they work fine, but they sure are dear.
We have an electric hot plate £20 which plugs into the outside electric socket of the van. This works a treat, and comes as part of the electric hook up price.
Us too, Frogman! We even have a griddle plate which we can put on the top, and which makes nice 'chargrilled' lines on your steak but without the smoke and burned bits, and ash!
We also have a little oven so we can roast a chicken or other larger pieces of meat - again all paid for in the cost of the Camping Cheque, which covers the price of the electricity!
A way to cure the Cadacs is to slide an inner from a toilet roll, or kitchen roll over the burner tube. This stops the wind from any direction putting out the gas flame!
I had one, still have in fact, and after I tried this little trick - worked perfectly every time!
The taste, barbie wise, is not as good as charcoal but its so handy that you just cant leave home without one
Stew
I cannot get my Cadac Safari Chef HP to be hot enough for a BBQ, so I adjust my cooking style accordingly to suit. Instead of BBQs, I just have stir-fries and pan-fried food instead.

HI, I suppose the Cadac is good if you dont want EHU. As we tend to travel from site to site in our van we don't always EHU unless in the same place for a few days as can charge up our equipment every few days. As we have on board gas we just hook the cadac hose up to this.

Rather than the cadac, we have an Algon which is like the Beauclaire, which has a cast iron griddle top and gets so hot and cooks so quickly you have to keep switching it off until you have prepared all the accompaniments! We also use a wok on it and love cooking chillies and curries outdoors with that. We wouldn't be without it for convenience, however we have also got a Cobb for that smokey barbecued flavour.

We have two Cadacs, a large and a small. When in France (or as now, in Spain) we take the small one to do chops or chicken for two on,or chilli or curry in the saucepan-like lid, but have been to sites in a hot summer when they will not let you use charcoal or gas BBQ either, so then we get out the George Foreman grill. I have seen people sitting with a mini electric chip pan cooking chips for all the family!

Electric? No smoke or flames ?? I'm not sure what "Monsieur Le Incendiaire" would have to say about that ;-)
