What you can do also depends on your gear. I've seen them of that age in the canoe, with swimming vest. But.. I'm a member of a canoeing anf kayak club. Some of them take the kids with them in the canoe as young as possible. Of course it's flat water. But that part of the Vézère is rather quiet as far as the current is concerned. No real rapids. But indeed, plain grass was more important when mine were of that age. They used to play around a lot with simple stuff brought or found. In that sense the simnple camping a la ferme was better for that age: lots of grass, easy to keep them in sight, not crowded at all, so lots of space for them to play. You know yours best, so you choose. If you would choose for that area: they are within some 10 minutes driving from each other, Moving is easy.
