He would have got a lot more than a slap around the face from me if he'd have touched one of my kids when they were that age.
My philosophy - NEVER start a fight, but if you are unable to avoid one always be the last man standing.
In my book he would have started the fight by hitting one of my kids.
Has always worked over the years, a bit of aggression when required prevents more problems that it creates. The bullies in this world always back down to an aggressive response.
