Chateau Du Gandspette is our place of choice, we have stayed here the last 4 trips to France....well on the way home that is.
When we go on to French soil we tend to go deep into France, to enjoy the true flavour of the place. The hinterland to Calais and all along that coast somehow seems very British, although Bayeaux was apleasant surprise.
I use to work for a prestiogious French fragrance house for many years, so armed with language skills I am quite cofortable going off the beaten track.
Brittany last year was a disappointed...too many Brits, likewise the South of France seems to attract, lots of Brits but with more money thrown at it!. I may be very wrong but Honfleur and the coast is like Scarborough, and Menton, and all along the Cote D'Azur could be twined with Marbella...not necessarily classy.
True France is well worth exploring.
We love the Loire, Aquitaine, the Dordogne and the Alps.
France is wonderful for camping, this is our 17th trip.
You will always be made welcome if you use a dusting of their language.
Bon chance et voyage
