Sorry Jusy, but you can record with a single cable/feed, also if only using a single cable into input one pause/rewind still works.
Anyway back to recording with a single cable, the way to do this is with a SP1 switch costs about £10, basicly it's a small fag packet sized device, which splits the single cable/feed into 2, it's not the ideal solution, but we used to use these when I worked for Sky, as it would allow a single cable/feed in a flat say, to still use Sky+ almost fully.
The limitations are that the SP1 makes input 1 the master and input 2 the slave, which realy only allows same polarity/band channels to be recorded.
There is another device which makes a single cable/feed into 2, a unit called a Johannsen Destacker, quite a clever device, which takes two feeds at the lnb end, and sends them down a single cable, at the reciver end the other part of the device splits the single cable into 2 fully usuable feeds, and allows Sky+ to work 100%.
Main reason we never take Sky + is so I get peace and quiet. Just have to put up with all the recordings when I get home, but can escape to the garden! Best advice, is to use the old box. Also should you be unlucky enough to be robbed at any stage, it is only the back up box gone.
