GO GO GO.

Year before last we did 14 countries ... though in six weeks ... not far off your circuit!

We have booked a site only once in thirty years of camping!  And, yes, a couple of times we've had to move on to the next one ... but it's rare.

Yes, go for municipals in France ..miles cheaper.

We used to do lots of one nighters or very short stays ... but, gradually, over the years, the stays have grown longer ... hardly ever less than five days now ... as you get to know different areas, so you'll know where your favourites are ... but, I think it's great to do loads of areas to begin with so's you get a real sense of what you like.
