If heading to Alsace region, I usually travel via Luxembourg. Little or no tolls if going that way rather than toll road to Reims etc.

that's a good point - just had a look on googlemaps and it's actually faster to go through Lux as well as cheaper. Might get the ferry to Dunkirk then instead of the shuttle...

There is a good Municipal Campsite at Haguenau where we have stayed and can recommend.

Another good site we stayed at was Obernai.
