We have just returned from 2 weeks in the Loire.
Tee shirts and shorts for the whole holiday. 2 afternoons of light rain but then the evening came lovely. Couple of overcast days but still hot. The rest of the days were sunshine with temps around 25 degrees with one day of 36 degrees, way too hot for us. Evenings for the first week were warm and balmy until late but they got a little chillier the second week. Still sat out with a light sweater on though
As mentioned above, the only place you can guarantee good weather, if that's possible, is the south east coast. This year we had superb weather in the Vendee for a month, but other years we haven't been so lucky. We've always had decent weather in the Charente Maritime, which is that bit further south than the Vendee. Weather is always a bit of a lottery!
Wherever you go, when the sun comes out it is hotter than the UK, so Sun safety is important - especially if you have children.
Hope the holiday plans go well!

Been lovely in Loire and Poiteau Charante at up to 38 deg between 3rd week Aug and 5 Sept. been cooler and cloudy for two days now at 17/19 deg. That would be low/average for September.
Forecast to stay 17/20 for next several days but that's ok for September. Cooler overnight obviously.
