Just looked at google maps & Biarritz area to Ardeche is 8+ hours - bit much for a mid holiday site change. Think we might save that area for another holiday slightly more east of France focused as L'Ardechois looks fantastic.
There is a main road which seems to go straight up to Clermont Ferrand, think we need to aim to be west of this so that leaves Tarn & Dordogne areas. Camping Les Iles has always been on my list so maybe 2014 is the year...although good to hear Les Peupliers in Tarn mentioned as had come up as one of my favoured Tarn site before this thread. Camping Du port is not one I've seen before - looks pleasant.

There are some lovely riverside sites alongside the Lot river, too - more in the area you want. Les Peupliers is probably a bit far east for you, actually being to to the east of the A75 which runs down from Clermont Ferrand, and probably too far for a 'site change' from the West Coast. Le Perpetuum alongside the Dordogne is another nice riverside site, and a bit cheaper than some of the alternatives.
We were at Les Peupliers last summer & apart from a friendly local dog that would wander around the site my family & I can't recall seeing any other dogs.
We had just the opposite - we were surrounded by dogs, both in and out of the river, at Les Peupliers - that's the one on at Riviere sur Tarn not the one at Couhe!

We loved walking up and swimming down the Dordogne but hated the layout (and prices)at Soleil Plage so .... we tried and would thoroughly recommend the next-door site, La Bouysse. We didn't have problems booking pitches although their pleasant gites book up quickly.

I don't mean to hijack the post, but I was talking to my wife this week-end, and we both felt it was time to go camping by a river again. We love the scenery and the canoeing etc and so do the kids.
We stayed in La Bouysse a few years ago, but my wife has one issue with riverside sites. She has a phobia of swimming in the river!
With this in mind can anyone suggest a site which is good for canoeing, but it must have a pool. We tend to prefer a quieter campsite and location. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
