Though I don't fish, last summer at Camping Floiras Base Nautique, we were next to a delightful Belgian couple .... he was a fanatical fisherman, and we watched as he fished every evening and landed enormous fish ... up to three feet long.
He drew crowds! Free entertainment on our doorstep!
If my OH took up 'Maggot Drowning' or whatever you choose to call it, we would be getting a quickie divorce.
My idea of a happy husband in France is the evening after an afternoon wine tasting he is sat reading on his kindle until well after dark, then waking me to tell me about the bats and any other creature he happens to spot.......while he polishes off a bottle of the red stuff!
You will note from my many blogs that there is a tendency towrads staying in areas with vineyards; Bordeaux, Burgundy,Chablis etc...the exception being the Alps.
Cat - happy with anywhere that affords fabulous views, and it is peaceful, and where I can go out and do a few hours on the bike (preferably hilly). OH won't come out with me if I do hilly routes, so he reads I ride.

mmm, yes I agree don't like Brits on holiday, this is why we avoid Brittany and Port Grimaud. Not that I ma generalising.
We live in a multi cultutral worlld these days, so high street s are now the same the world over.
We both love to go to the food markets and try new things.
My other pet hate is 'entertainment', unless it is a classical recital but these sites that mention the 'E' word get a swift divert.
My OH have been married just 23 years and pre me BC (before Catharine) he had never been camping, certainly not in France. We have been heading for France for the past 17 years now, so I guess I have a happy husband in France.

Someone mentioned it earlier that they like France for the culture, I entirely agree...we go to France to absorb the culture. I love speaking French too and receiving that beam of appreciation from the other side of the conversation.

Although very popular with some, fishing is not my husband's idea of enjoyment (whether on holiday or not), at home he enjoys rugby, on holiday camping in France he enjoys the food, wine, afternoon naps (due to the heat) and spending precious time reconnecting with his kids (playing ping pong, playing in the swimming pool/river, playing tennis)
As for entertainment, I flinch at the thought and try to avoid it at all costs but the type of sites that have the other things that we like tend to have entertainment of varying degrees. My lot enjoyed the ping pong tournament at the end of our stay ... but that was about it, dubbed Johnny English films are not my cup of tea either.

My goodness we have work, social, football, athletics, family commitments all through the year so if OH imposed fishing commitments to our holiday it wouldn't work, holidays for us are precious time for us to be together as a family.
Kelper, OK smart **se, but you know this is a common saying for 'embrace the place'.
You guys will whince when you know how we sometimes close the day.......we sometimes play scrabble, with a French twist. We also play RUDE scrabble, this does NOT include forfeits but that could be quite entertaining! Of course this is fuelled with local nectar.
