We visited Denmark and Norway last year in July.
We did not book any sites and did not have a problem.
Enjoy your visit I'm sure you will find it a great experience. The scenery is amazing, the people so friendly.

Thank you. We have googled lots of information and we know it will be expensive but an interesting trip. I could only find one comment that June is a good time to go and there are lots of campsites. Your post is reassuring.

Dont forget in Norway you either need a Tollpass for the roads, or I think its possible to register your credit card to your vehicle licence plate

Yes there is a set up to register for visitors vehicles, it takes NOK 300 then automatically deducts as you pass the toll booths, when you get to nil it debits your credit card another NOK 300. After 3 months you get a refund of the balance - all sounds good.

If not though there is the option of paying manually at the booths.

Not sure which we will use yet, need to look at how many toll roads we may use.

You can just drive through and your registration will be picked up and an invoice sent to you that you can pay online, except booths that are operated manually then you have to pay or you get a fine! See Autopass website.
