Sparkling wine in Germany (and certain other countries) is known as sekt. It can be a little less alcoholic, but not much less, than the French equivalents but it is rather nice. I prefer the drier varieties myself.

We used to live in Germany and I love rose wine, bought Cimarosa from Lidl which costs about 1.99 euro compared to four pounds over here and tastes pretty much like blossom hill. You will find a Lidl in most German towns.
You cant go to Germany and not try the different kinds of Wursts, bratwurst is the best, also shnitzels and gyros from the shnellies (their fast food outlets)
Whatever you buy will be cheaper than the UK especially this year with the good exchange rate just hope if we get a change of government that will not go sour. Here in Austria everything cheap too food, clothes and fuel. Weather sunny hot and 28 to 30 deg. c
