In fact I was only in God's country last Tuesday, visiting him in Annan, and he not doing to bad for an ex para 90 next birthday.

Definitely take a credit card as a lot of fuel stations are unmanned after a certain time or may not be manned at all.

Everything else you need has been mention already. Don't over think it as France is an enjoyable and easy place to holiday.
