I just went to book a campsite in Brittany and they wanted €28 booking fee, which seems a complete rip off.
Is this simply paying to reserve and if I turn up on the day and risk it, would it mean that this fee is not added to the bill?
You won't be charged a booking fee if you just turn up. We have spent thirty-odd years just turning up and never not found a pitch, or ever paid a booking fee anywhere at all.
Nor have we ever paid. I would sulk the whole holiday if it were to happen.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
We found a pretty little campsite in Gien one year, very reasonably priced ... then we clocked the €20 booking fee. I enquired, yes it was for real, even if you just stayed 1 night.
We found there are lovely Munis at both Chatillon sur Loire and La Charité sur Loire, both with equally good views of the river and a pretty town, so we stayed at one of those. Can't remember which. Similar price but no booking fee.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
