If you are going to Como from Lugano or Ticino, look at crossing the border at Ponte Tresa rather than Chiaso.

We lived in Milan for 4 years and used to do our shopping in Lugano. Chiaso was a pain, full of officials but Ponte Tresa was small and friendly, the guards knew our children by name and would always talk to them.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Thank you for the tip.

It was a crime not stopping in Milan. I worked in fashion for over a decade and Milan is the Mecca for style.

Why on earth would you come back to the UK unless you really had to. All I need is lakes, mountains, gr8 food, music and great fashion. Italy has it all, although not ken on the amount of graffiti and the corrupt politics !!!!

Hi dselby, We have done Lake Garda for the last 2 years for our 2 week holiday, the first time we went there we thought we would save money on the tolls and Vignettes in Switzerland so we went calais through the top of france(toll Free) Luxembourg, Germany, Austria(vignette 8 euros) down the Verona side of the lake and around to Salo. This year we followed the Toll Free route on a website called "motorhome Voyager", and I have to say it was the right choice and we will be using the same route next year when we go back for the 3rd year running. OK, we deceided to stop at Grindelwald to do the Grindelwald First, but we purchased the vignettes online and they cost £60 for the 2 of them.(car and caravan).
There were plenty of ACSI campsites on route and we just called the site on-route to book a night,
If you would like any further help please ask. Also we book the C&CC european rally at the weekend site close to Salo. Its a really nice site with spectacular views across the lake
