Well, just to balance the equation, and a few years ago, our friend (younger than us, and in his late forties at the time) had a massive heart attack whilst walking in the Pyrenees, ultimately resulting in a bill for a very substantial amount - probably about half the value of his house at the time. It was entirely covered, apart from his voluntary excess, by a one of the very cheapest policies on the market which cost him just £12.99. And the claim was settled in a very straightforward manner, which didn't give him any extra 'grief' at all.
This could be said to prove that whilst there is a vast difference in the price of policies, there may be very little difference in how a claim is handled between the cheapest and the most expensive. On the other hand it could just be that he 'got lucky'!
Ahh those were the days when I could get insurance for £22.00 for the wife and me funnily enough my wife's share of our multi trip insurance is only £16.00 out of the £216
