Yep, it just shows how different we all are, for work I don't leave the house untill around 10am, but when on Holiday, I am up with the larks, and usually down at the wash block, for 6am.

Me too, and then an early morning swim if the pool is open.

I bet you're the two with squeaky caravan doors.

No need to carry breathalysers anymore, although I would advise taking one of the AlcoSense units that Aldi are selling at the moment £30.

The risk is the morning after, UK law permits .35mg/l breath whilst French law is just .22mg/l.

In other words if you consume 2 pints of Beer (4% alcohol), or half a bottle of Wine (350ml) 13% alcohol, mid evening to 11pm, you will be most likley well over the French limit at 9am the next morning, even though you will be 100% sober.

On the amounts you quoted you would be perfectly safe to drive the next morning at 9am. A pint of beer of the strength you state would contain 3 units of alcohol, therefore 6 units for 2 pints; a half bottle of wine contains about 5 units. On average your body processes 1 unit of alcohol per hour, therefore your body should be free of alcohol at around 5am to 6am if you finish drinking by 11pm.

We are currently drinking a nice vino tinto 15%. ( €1.75 a bottle)
Because you lose all feeling during the first glass, it is easy to drink more than half a bottle.

This means I won't be able to drive until 15.00

A gendarme did breathalyse me once at 9am. He went to the left hand side first but was puzzled at the absence of a steering wheel , then got very cross and red faced when all his group of trainees giggled at him.

zzzzzz - sorry I seem to have dropped off - must be drinking wine whilst watching the Royal Wedding?

Eh up - remember when police stopped the Likely Lads - After testing the 'sober one' Terry (the claimed driver) gets back into the rear seat ... LOL

Yep, no doubt there are a few less French drivers on the road's than there used to be.

Don't know if the law in France has changed but if you lost your Licence for drink/driving offences, you could still drive a Quadricycle ie Axiam or similar
