With the greatest respect, if your dog is confrontational when another dog looks st him, it might be worth some training and socialisation classes? Surely the most important thing isn't what he looks like but how he behaves? You need to be able to enjoy your holidays and so too do other people with dogs, so getting him to a place where he's happy to walk past another dog - of any size or build and wherever it happens to be looking - is really important for everyone (including Rosko!)
We met a woman and her dog on a campsite in the Dordogne this year, where we both had our dogs on leads and were about to pass each other, going in opposite directions.
We could tell she was anticipating trouble by the way she shortened the lead and the dog's aggressive demeanour as she dragged him to one side of the path.
Our girl walked merrily along and didn't bother while he was getting more and more worked up and the woman had actually to position herself in front of him to stop him from lunging at our dog. It was obviously a scene enacted many times previously with the woman's anxiety transmitting to her dog on seeing another dog then him nearly hanging himself by his lead, trying to get round her legs while posturing aggression.
Whilst nobody was physically hurt, it wasn't a nice encounter for anyone. The woman may have thought she had the situation under control but, from our point of view, it was unpleasant and something which consistency and good training can help to sort out. Which is why I'm an advocate of training and socialisation for any dog with aggression issues (which are often rooted in insecurity).
Any dog who can't make eye contact with another without some aggro, or who needs to wear a muzzle, needs a lot more work doing. This isn't a criticism but an observation. If such a dog attacked my dog because she looked at him in passing, it'd be a very big criticism.
