I booked a travel package for Departure and Day 2 PCR tests earlier this morning, and have e-mailed the vendor to enquire if I could change the Day 2 test to Lateral Flow Test and get a small refund, as I have yet to book the Day 2 test being so far in advance for 22 November 2021.

Just speculating but, I wonder if it's acceptable to use lateral flow OR PCR (if PCR already booked) when the changes come into play?
I expect so, as PCR is supposed to be the more reliable test and gold standard.
The difference in price between the two tests is sufficient for a good meal for me, so it is worth the effort to request to change the test and get a partial refund.

Is there any news on pricing? Our Day 2 PCR tests cost £45 each, but I know some companies charge more, some less, so I wonder how much you’ll actually save. It would help if there was a standard charge, like in France.
As well is two words!

A good saving then 👍
And it appears you just upload a photo of the results, so no having to find a nearby drop-box.

PCR day 2 tests on return now required again & returner must self isolate until negative test result is delivered.
Don't forget, though, that you can do them immediately on arrival, photograph your test and email it off. Hopefully you will then get the results through in twenty-four hours. In other words, if you live in t'North like we do, you arrive mid-morning, test immediately, drive home (up to seven hours), unpack minimally, eat, bottle of wine, go to bed, and by next morning may have your test result back.
PCR test requires swabs to be sent to lab. Reason for change will be that positive tests can then be analysed for variant to ascertain if it is the new South African type.

We dropped PCR tests off at a drop box in the evening of our first day back in UK and got the results not the next day, but the day after, so Val's scenario above could be quite possible.

When we arrived back in Sept when PCR tests were previously required we had our ordered Randox kits already delivered to our home. We did tests next morning & delivered them to the Randox drop box. That was Sunday & we got the emailed negative test results on Wednesday.
Difference this time is that once you arrive home from abroad you are supposed to stay there until you receive the negative result. Whether there will be any checks remains to be seen but with PCR tests how quick you get results relies of speed of turn around at lab.
