Ah ... Chambord starts on 9th July ..
However:
Blois 'Son et Lumiere' starts in April ... and is very good
Chenonceau 'Son et Lumiere' operates every Fri/Sat/Sun in June ..

Have fun!

Looking in our 2010 AA France road atlas the A71 runs parallel to the N20. I can't find anty reference to the N154 Val A mentions? Should I get a new Road Atlas!!!

The N154 starts just south of Rouen, does a short 'mix' with the N12 at Nonancourt (between Evreux and Dreux) and then sort of transforms into the A20 around Orleans somewhere, but on my old map is still the N154 down to Vierzon through Salbris, etc..  The French re-number their roads as fast as they build them.

Yep- my maps are seriously old. I should really invest in some new ones. Last year if it was not for sat nav we would have got very lost as we were on motorways that didn't exist on my ancient 1990's maps!

We usually drive the whole way, especially if we are not towing. It takes under 9 hours. If we stop we are lazy and use a F1 hotel which will cost you about £20 a night, so not really worth camping for the one night.

Well we could try- we are used to travelling long distances but I'd just be concerned if we planned to do it in one go and didn't manage it we wouldn't have planned a stop over...I hate driving round trying to find campsites at 7 o clock at night it's so frustrating!

I couldn't agree more!!

We always have the Formule1 booklet with us, then if we find we really have to stop ... because my supply of red bull has run out (lol) ... then we can, without having to bother with setting up camp in the middle of the night .
Though, we have used an 'aire' a couple of times, and that was fine ... if you can put up with the continuous motorway drone.

Of course, one advantage of driving through the night is that there is much less traffic and you can really eat up miles .... also, if you come off a ferry at (say 2 a.m.) in Calais or Dunkirk .... when you get to the peripherique, it is almost clear and you whistle through/round Paris without having to do the Rouen detour.

I prefer travelling at night but the Mr doesn't and he is doing most of the driving so it's his choice...we will wing it and see what happens, we might be surprised. I used to do Leeds-Morzine every year in one go but it's different when you've going with someone who doesn't like it! Getting excited now only three weeks to go!!
