Thinking only of my stomach we bought a couple of kilos of veal escalopes which we froze in the caravan's freezer. They a cost a fraction of what veal costs in this country - that is if you can get it!
Great done in breadcrumbs with capers and a fried egg, served with pasta and a tomato and basil sauce. You'll see it on the menu as "Escalope Holstein".
Filet de cheval (horsemeat to uninitiated) is also very tasty and good for you. In the same league as venison - low cholesterol and very lean - this tastes very good braised in red wine and herbs served with seasonal vegetables.
Roll on next Summer - can't wait to get back there and get stuck in!
Lovely!
