The majority aren't moaning about the introduction of quarantine but the short notice given.
All the people who are rushing to return to the UK to beat the deadline won't need to quarantine,and what about all the hundreds or thousands Goods vehicles crossing weekly there is no quarantine requirement for them.

Recently got back from 2 weeks on a site near the med (Cote d'azur side). During that time I literally did not see a single person not wearing a mask indoors, be it shops, autoroute services, covered markets, site offices etc. Everyone wore a mask where required too. I come back home, nipped into my local shop and its the complete opposite, no-one seems to be bothered. Felt a damn site safer over there than over here. Not that it was all perfect, the navette out of St Tropez was still a rugby scrum with any social distancing going out the window as people literally pushed and scrambled over each other to get onboard, at least everyone was wearing a mask though, not that it probably made any difference.

So the theory is, those thousands who cross back today are safe, and can go about their business without compromise, but those who cross the channel from 4am tomorrow aren't?

Ripped off on a staycation with poor sites and service, inclement weather, I wonder why we all want to have a holiday abroad?
I agree that we have the worst figures in Europe since March and that the govt. have overall failed to handle the whole thing properly, but at the moment the cases of Covid per 100,000 population in the UK are less than half those in France and the Netherlands. I think they have said all along that any country with a figure higher than 20 is likely to come off our `safe` list, France is in the 30`s now, and the Netherlands even higher.

One way, like it or not, to Control covid19 in the UK
Is to shut the boarders, we are an Island.
Get it under control here first, then look at travel abroad, we cannot control the world as well as our own country.
And sadly the stark reality is, that until or if they get a vaccine for covid19, we will all have to live alongside it, and with all the restrictions that will come and go with it.

Interestingly, to put French figures into perspective, I have just looked at French Government figures for the last 4 weeks.
We are planning on going to SW France in a couple of weeks time (I will worry about UK quarantine if we have to face it on our return) and in the Lot et Garonne, Tarn et Garonne, Dordogne, and the Lot there has been 3 confirmed cases and 1 death combined.
I think, along with most other countries that have suddenly spiked overall, the increase appears to be among younger people in major cities and `party` towns.

I don't think any notice should be given. As soon as it is apparent a quarantine is required they should shut the door. Many of those who rushed back yesterday to beat the quarantine could be carrying the virus. Everyone knows that if they go abroad they could end up having to quarantine when they return. It's a risk they take.
I assume lorry drivers have their own means of social distancing and hygiene and may even sleep in their cabs, whereas many holiday makers tend to disregard all, and flood the beaches and bars, judging by what I have seen.

Indeed other countries are only quarantining people who have visited “red areas”. So for example Holland insist that anyone visiting Antwerp is quarantined but not the rest of Belgium.
Germany has a system to test individuals on their return from ‘red areas’ and after 2 days retest and if the results are negative they can continue with their jobs etc...
I was due to sail to France today but pulled the plug yesterday. I have now booked a quiet site in Snowdonia...next to a nuclear power plant....but has anyone seen the weather for the next week? Yep rain every day for the western part of the U.K. at least including the “wonderful” Cornwall. I am sure my kids will have a fantastic time in the rain. Even the snowdon train is full and doesn’t even go to the top anymore.

Someone asked why my options were south of England or Greece and why not go to a beautiful part of the U.K. Instead.
Basically. The weather.
I live in a beautiful part of the U.K and for most of the year we spend time in the Lake District, Peak District Yorkshire dales, Rutland and other areas and most of the time we are tramping around in the rain.
Usually the South of England is about 5c warmer than here and so a better option than the north.
Greece currently hasn't any travel restrictions so that was another choice.
So as our travel insurance won't be valid in France we are probably going to go to Germany instead on a rural campsite somewhere beautiful and hopefully warm.

So everyone is wearing a mask out there and their infection rate is on the up again, so,i would say the masks are pretty useless at protecting you
The biggest rise in infection rates are the 18 - 30 age group who are probably the worst at attending large gatherings and not wearing masks, so you are one of the very few who would say that masks are pretty useless.
We are retired, and it's true we can go anytime, but some retired people who want to go to specific sites tend to book early. They then have the same problem as working people. Weather's awful for the time they have booked. We don't fall into that category, as often we book last minute and NEVER in school holidays. We are usually quite flexible with where we go as well.
We were once working though, and had kids in school, so we know what it's like. As I was a train driver we had an additional problem in that only so many drivers at a depot can be off at any one time, so I was told when my holidays would be the following year and they weren't always convenient.
