Hi Guys - I can't decide which camp site to go to in St Hilaire-de-Riez, Vendée. I need to go to one of the above sites (as have already booked one but tour operator have offered other) - I would really appreciate the opinion of any one who knows either site - my last two holidays have been terrible (car crash for one and then my daughter was crtically ill at the last one) - really want to give the fmaily a good time this year so feel under real pressure to make the right choice - thanks

well we have been to sol a gogo and it was a lot of fun. Nice site and a nice location. But remember each to their own taste. the vendee is my least favourite part of france but solagogo does have a lovely beach and if you have kids you can go and poke th edead jelly fish. Beach is nice as is the swimming pool. and the weather was good to . However must point out that we stayed in a mobile home so can't say what the facilities are like for the camper
We stayed at Les Ecureuils many years ago. Its a nice site. Good bar and swimming pool. The pitches were a reasonable size and it seemed to be well run.
Toilets were good and clean. I don't think there is as much entertainment on this site as there is at Sol a Gogo, but I think it has a classier feel about it. The beach is across the road and through the sand dunes.
Its a decent site and we would go again if in the area, but its not an area that we particularly liked - beach holidays are not really our thing.

Some people are just all show. I don’t mind that if the show is worth watching but ….

Have been to Les Ecureuills 3 times, the first 2 were glorious but he third it rained ! Have only done eurocamp on this site and found it to be a pleasant site. Not much in the way of entertainment, a small but lovely pool, plenty of places to eat and drink and the beach a short walk away, which is large and sandy !
Cant say for Sol-a-Go although from the outside it seemed more active and possibly noisy...sorry not sure.
Les Ecureuills in our books is a quiet site.
Stayed last year for 2 weeks, yes it rained a bit while were there but still had fun.
don't know the age of your kids, we have one 5 year old & camped, booked direct
Swimming pool (indoor & outdoor) were great, smallish slides but great fun I spent most of my holiday on them (sometimes not by choice). My son made many friends & spent a couple of days at the camp site kids club, but can't comment on eurocamp clubs
Yes not lots of night time entertainment, but that isn't why we go to the sites. with the big fairground 1 1/2 miles down the road you don't really need it.
Campsite/pool was always clean, food in the take away restaurant was good & we had a great holiday, my son wants to go back & still asks even though he knows he is going somewhere else this year.
thanks all for your repsonses - I know what you mean about the Vendee - we really wanted to go down to santander on the ferry this summer and drive back up to France. However, after spending her Xmas and New Year in Israel in hospital my 10 year old doesn't really want to go further than Brighton! The Vendee is nice and close to all the ferry ports and we have been to Northern France so many times it almost seems like the Uk to her. Hopefully next summer we might make it a bit further. Anyway thanks again for your help - we decided on the sol a go go site in the end (it was the dead jelly fish that swung it for me!) - no seriously a bit of decking, a bottle of wine and a pool for the kids and I am happy really! Good holidays to you all

We stayed in solagogo a few years ago and had a brilliant time it is very busy in the day but everyone seemed to quiet down at night. You will have an excellent time we had a five year old and she enjoyed it to. Factilities were excellent. We are going to Les Sables d'Ollon this August I personally like the Vendee but can see the appeal to go further south as my parents have a holiday home in the south west
Have a good one
thanks Lucy - just really want to have a good time this summer - hope it is going to be a good summer like they predict - wouldn't norammly be anxious over a campsite but afetr so many rubbsih holidays I am trying to cover evey angle!
Hope you have a brilliant time - I know what its like when you have had a couple of cr*ppy hols - the pressure to get it right in unbearable - but sounds like you have made a good choice.
Les Ecureils, was a super site, not too busy and no teenagers hanging around causing hassle, Vendee was really nice when it was hot, but horrible in the rain, not much to do when the weather was rubbish. And it rained for 2 weeks when we went last year. Suppose the first week was nice. My advice, avoid the French holiday weekend in August, seems like half of France go there.

Went to Sol a Gogo 4 years ago. My daughter who is now 11 still asks every year if we can go back! Liked the fact that it is right next to the beach. Pitches are quite small but facilities were good. Nice swimming pool but crowded. There isn't much to do in the Vendee, so important to have a campsite with plenty going on if your kids are small.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
