Off to france again this year (5 years running) usually go portsmouth - cherbourg as we love normandy!! Decided to go from dover - calais this year (as its much cheaper). Can anyone tell me what the drive is like to normandy (we're staing in st. pair sur mer). Also how much can we expect to pay for the tolls?

I have to say it is a very good motorway from Calais heading south. We always do this on the way to teh Vendee rather than do a longer crossing. you get to the motorway quickly then you can just eat up the miles at 80mph with few hold ups all the way to Caen

Last year we drove from Calais to Rouen and there is motorway all along the coast, the first bit is even toll free. If you have plenty of time and Dover is not too far out of your way this crossing seems to make sense.
From the Cotswolds we arrive at Rouen area at the same time no matter if we do Portsmouth/Le Harve or Dover Boulogne. Unlike us boys the girls don't like the sea too much so we compromise on Speedferry quick crossing and save the £££ for fun. The drive from Boulogne to Rouen is a breeze.
