Can someone tell me what code I need to put in front of a british telephone number when phoning from France. It involves some 4's doesn't it?

00 44 then miss the first 0 from the telephone number so 01234 567890 would be 00 44 1234 567890 - same for British mobiles.

If using a mobile and the number is already installed in the phone the just press call and it will connect. i've just returned from France and never used the code. If using a call box then you will need the code. If i'm right I think I saw somewhere that all call boxes in france will now only take a phone card. they do not accept coins. Maybe someone can verify this.

Thats correct. French call boxes only accept phone cards . If you have an 02 mobile contact them and get the europe bolt on . only 35p a minute as against £1 40.
