hi we also use places like travel inns or travel lodges there is a travel inn at folkestone and a travel lodge at ashford both whinin easy driving distance to dover. We would normally use travel inn you can get a family room for £58 that is for 2 adults and 2 children under 16 this year our daughter is 17 so we would have had to have 2 rooms at travel inn so we have gone for a travel lodge as there rooms can accomodate 3 adults and 1 child and are £50 so we are stopping at the one in ashford, both chains are good.
We used to stay here. Really nice. Fab fish restaurant downstairs. No breakfast - they reckon people will get it on the ferry. Just around the corner from the ferry.
Discovered it is cheaper to get a tea-time ferry and b&b in France, so we do that now.

- we're going to Belgium on 2nd and staying in Ashford travelodge - will suss brekkie at tesco 3 miles away and have a leisurely drive to the port for 12ish - well thats the plan!! have fun anyway!!
ps the Ashford one is on a complex with cinema and restaurants etc so we thought the kids would be happy the night before!

We stayed at the Travel Lodge about 5 miles out of Canterbury on the A20 ( i think) when we sailed from Dover a couple of weeks ago- in no way was it luxurious but at only £26 for a double room, we weren't complaining! The other idea we had was visiting Canterbury and going out for tea but we set off too late from home to do this.
Go down the evening before and get on the French side and stay in Coquelle, B&B chain. Book up in advance on-line, dead easy to find. You will get a good nights sleep and be on the French side to start your journey as soon as you are ready. It works for me and I have tried every combination, apart from that the B&B accommodation is cheaper. Just my opinion. metroman.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
