I'd really appreciate any recommendations for campsites open in October-November, located within an hour of Biarritz airport - St Jean de Luz? There seems to be no easy way of checking when campsites are open.

Am I mad for even thinking of staying in a campsite at Halloween? with kids?

Hi

No, I don't think you're mad. If I wasn't so busy with work at that time of year, I'd be looking for somewhere myself.

As I think you already realise, the majority of sites will close mid / late September, so you'll have your work cut out. Each site's own website will give its season dates, but I guess that's what you've already tried, and I know it's tedious.

You could try contacting Select Sites, or Alan Rogers to get some help on this.

TT.

The Camping France website does a feature each autumn on those sites that are open all year round - may be worth a look later on - can't find the feature at the moment but if you look at this page

http://www.campingfrance.com/recherche_liste.jsp?t=5&regLib=Aquitaine&depLib=Pyrénées-Atlantiques&region=02&dep=64&Ville=all&ch=geo&lg=uk

it gives opening times for all the campsites in Pyrénées-Atlantiques - there seem to be a few open until end Oct including first and second on list
