We're off on our Continental hols on 28 July (Yippee).
We're taking our collie Max for the first time. He is Pet passported and ready to go but we need to sort our a campsite and vet near to Dunkerque so that we can take Max to a vet and get him treated and paperwork completed ready for the return to the UK. We are travelling home on the 6.00sm oat from Dunkerque on Wednesay 29 August and so we need to take him to a vet on Monday 27 August to fit in with the >24 hours but <48 hours limits.
Therefore, recommendations, Dunkerque area:
(1) Campsite - coastal would be good as we may spend a few days there while we take Max to the vet, buy some cidre, etc. Could be towards Calais and preferably allow early morning departures.
(2) Vet - Familiar with Pet Passport and preferably Englsih speaking. Our French is rather limited when it comes to vet-speak!!! One that has an English speaking receptionist, for when I phone to book would be useful too. Email for booking would be useful too
Thanks in anticipation

Chateau du Gandspette is a site near to Calais, used to early morning departures - and there's a vet within walking distance in the village Jean Paulus, 21 Rue Bleue Maison, 62910, Eperlecques Tel 03 21 88 46 00, fax 03 21 88 45 10. Can't say whether he speaks English or not, but site reception do, and I'm sure they'll help.
As you come out of the campsite entrance, turn right, cross the road, and the vet is about 200 yards on the opposite side of the road. Haven't actually used the vet, our dog is too old, but we often stay there and meet people who have.
We stayed at Chateau du Gandspette last weekend and took our Sheltie to Mr Paulus. He speaks excellent English and knew exactly what to do. We have taken our Sheltie, Sam to France three times now and everything has been very straight forward.
Chateau du Gandspette was fine too and we wished we had stayed there longer than the two nights we were there.

I hope you and Max have a great time!

Hi Kelly, did you book in advance, and how much was the treatment? We need to take our Sheltie in August, and are returning from Brittany to Calais, so are reluctant to use our usual vet in St Quentin. This sounds like a good choice.

We use a vet in St Quentin. Dr Leleu, very good with the dog, though we converse in French as he is not very confident in English. However he is very competent with the treatment. Just ask for a rendezvous for the treatment to return to Angleterre- the receptionist is brill. Last time we booked from the UK before we left home. We then stay in Peronne from choice, at the Port de Plaisance campsite. That leaves you with a short drive to do in the 24/48 hour window, so time to get the shopping in!
I agree with everything Kelly has said.Very good site and vet.
The site is a short distance from the road.Once you are on the road( a D road) it is a clear easy run to Dunkerque ferry port.Big shopping complex at St Omer for your goodies and a reasonable trip to the Belgium border if you wish.

It cost 40 Euros for our Sheltie to see the vet. We booked about 2 weeks in advance. Mr Paulus did seem pretty busy so it is probably a good idea to book.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
