Not done this run from Calaise but have done it from Le Havre and there is not a great deal of difference except time of course. We prefer to enter Spain north of Barcelona as the other route cutting in  near San Sabastian is horrible. As to the roads, keep to the motorways and pay the tolls it is easier, faster, and less stressful. We overnighted after about 300/350 mile periods averaging 50 mph. i.e 6/7 hours driving and including stops. This equated to one stop mid-France and one stop just before the Spanish border, from there you can make Benidorm in one go following the A7 motorway. Only problems we had was the boredom factor for she who doesn't drive and can't read whilst travelling, other than that a doddle, good luck.
