we have been to Ireland several times with our caravan. As you are Southampton then the nearest ferry port for you would be Pembroke or Fishguard, but I have not used these, we go from Holyhead.
If you are a member of either club you can get reduced fares, or you can use Tesco vouchers if you have these.
There is a site called St. Margaret's near Rosslare which would be handy as a stop over, and the site at Bantry is called Eagle Point; I haven't been to it. The Ring of Kerry is great, with a caravan go round from the north. 2 sites at Cahersiveen and Caherdaniel (Wave Crest is the latter). If you stay at Wave Crest which is wonderful you have to go about 9 miles to Waterville for cash point and petrol.
The roads can be bad, take off your jockey wheel and glue down everything! Petrol is a bit cheaper than here, food and drink about the same.
many thanks for the suggestions have checked out the webb pages and the site look good, have rang caravan club
for a price on the ferry, seems to be getting a good deal
from them. thanks again,

We went from Pembroke, £279 (return) to Rosslare, Boat was great, stayed at St Margerates, (Ladys Island) Bit noisy early morning with peeps getting up to catch ferry, but good. Ireland is GREAT, peeps are freindly, food and drink is very good. If you go round Kerry Ring go clockwise as the coaches Etc have to go anti and can cause holdups. Make sure you go over pass from Glenkarriff to New Ross, and don't miss the Gap of Dunloe wich is Nr Killarny. ENJOY
Donughues White Villa Farm Killarney lovely site and the cheapest in the Killarney area, stayed there in June for a week, it,s handy for the Ring of kerry, Beara Way, and the Dingle, the site is on the N22/N72 junction, just out of Killarney, make sure you go for a ride in a Jaunter (pony & trap) ruond the Killarney Nation Park, and you should also visit Muckcross House intresting place, enjoy your stay in Ireland.
PS if you do Pembroke to Rosslare and you are going to Killarny, do not travel on the N72 with the caravan it,s not a good road at all for towing, use the N25&N22 a bit farther but a lot easier.

If you are towing or have a large motorhome I think it is best to round the Ring of Kerry anticlockwise as there are some overhanging rocks where you could catch your vehicle.
We are staying at Wave Crest in two weeks time. We visited last year when scouting for sites before we bought our van. Liked the look of it and are going to give it a go. Mrs. Bonce - did you notice if there was water and electric at each pitch. Seems a bit hilly and dont fancy the thought of pulling the aquaroll up one of those hills.
Many thanks for all your helpful advice, am now busy checking sites out, seems like some nice sites available, hope to be staying in Bantry bay area for a week, then moving up country for the second week, if we do the ring og Kerry we will do that solo and leave the van at the site, but once again many thanks for the help given.

see if you can get a pitch near the sea, best views and you will be on the same level as the water supply. ehu on all pitches as far as I know but not water. Enjoy your trip!
A lot of the minor roads in the west are little more than lane ways so if your driving or pulling something big keep your wits about you. Shop around for fuel there can be big differences between prices and if your filling a large tank even 5 or 6 cent per litre makes all the difference. Regarding dirty fuel stay away from small roadside pumps regardless of the price. Stick with the big names Statoil, Texaco, Tesco etc. If your anywhere near Mayo check out Keel Sandybanks in Achill island great atmosphere lovely scenery.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
