Looking to take the family, 2 adults, 2 kids 2 and 4yrs, to france next year along with our folding camper (if it doesnt cost too much). Any ideas where i can have a great family holiday with half a chance of getting good weather in june. would be grateful of any site reconmendations.

Hi, we have been to LaVallee, in Houlgate Normandy a couple of times now and have hit lucky with the weather both times. The site is excellant, pitches separated with bushes various sizes depending on what your using. There is a pool several kids play ares including a toddler area for your 2yr old, play room for older kids and they provide a kids club and have evening entertainment every night, some of which we went to and had a good time. The beach is in walking distance but the 1st time we went our boys were 2yrs & 3yrs and we used the car and found parking not to much of a problem. The site is clean excellant facilities and plenty of them no queues for showers etc and the owners and staff are helpful and friendly. There is also a wild life park about 45mins away by car which our kids love to go to and its a great day out.Maisons Lafitte in Paris is a good base for seeing Paris but I would leave that til your kids are a bit older.
Hope this helps

We've just returned from the Loire with our folding camper & 3 kids. We stayed at L'Etang de la Breche and had the most fantastic time (see my review). There is a HUGE open area in the centre of the campsite with two seperate childrens play areas that would suit the ages of yours perfectly.
We sailed from Portsmouth to Le Havre with LD lines and it cost £280 return with cabins. The campsite is 200 miles from Le Havre and we left the ferry at 8.30am, stopped an hour for lunch at a motorway service rest area and arrived at our site at 1.30pm - so it's around a 4 hour drive.
You can't predict the weather anywhere other than the very VERY South of France, but in order to be in with a good chance of fairer weather at any time you need to head to the Loire or lower. I would say with two kiddies that age a 4 hr drive would be the max (ours were 14yrs, 12 yrs and 3 yrs). Mind you, we found the dvd's in the back of the car an absolute godsend!

On a budget the cheapest crossing is usually Dover/Calais - and you can get some really good 'offers' around October for the following year. P and O have ferries almost every hour, so if you miss one there's another along shortly. Occasionally there's hot competition for the lowest fares in Autumn for the following year, and even Eurotunnel have been known to make substantial reductions in their normal rate.

For a better chance of decent weather, you need to go a fair way South - Normandy and Brittany have very similar weather to the UK, and while they are lovely areas, the weather can be very unpredictable.
We've just come back from here with our 6 and 3 year olds: Logis du Breuiland have been to the area 5 times before.
Loads to do for children - great beaches, fantastic zoo, all the usual seaside stuff.
It's around 550 miles from Calais, so you'll need an overnight stop really. We stopped this year in the Loire Valley on the way down, and near Rouen on the way back.
This site gets booked up very early apparently, so you'll need to be early.
All depends how far you want to travel into France. We have just returned from Argeles with our friends who have a folding camper. (Now looking to sell as they want a caravan) You will have a good chance of some lovely weather here but it is a hike, although an enjoyable hike. Would recommend Le Soleil. Right on the beach and also a big pool complex.
If your main considerations are sun and cost - probably the Loire or Vendee are the best, closest regions - they're in a traditionally hot area similar to the South Of France. Normandy can be just as wet as Southern England. There are good, spacious municipal sites to be had for a small sum - e.g. http://www.camping-auborddeloire.com/pagesang/camping-services2.html for £10 pn (though we haven't stayed here, we're looking at it for next year). All singing and dancing sites in these regions are usually £20-£30 pn.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
